Museum Day with Steampunks

Dorothy and Alexander on the stairs, California State Capitol

I spent most of Saturday with the Sacramento Steampunk Society, taking advantage of the Sacramento Museum Day free entry. Most of us were dressed in various permutations of Victorian clothing and steampunky accouterments. Because we were dress more historically than many of the staff and docents at the museums, we kept getting questions from the other visitors, most of which we couldn’t answer.

We went to the Capitol to see the various museum rooms, and got a tour from Teddy Roosevelt and other docents The photo is the lavish staircases between the floors.

We then went to Stanford mansion and took the abbreviated tour, which is all that is available on very busy days. The mansion is the best restored of the Victorian houses in Sacramento, at least of the ones I’ve been to.

Then on to the Governor’s Mansion, which has a room dedicated to each governor or time period. The 50’s through 70’s rooms are pretty ridiculous, but the older are elegant.

We then gathered for lunch at Lucca on J Street, and I had a quite good spicy pasta.
